Is it me? Did I lose my sense of humor? Am I being uptight about nothing?

A few weeks ago, our family went to the mall to celebrate at Cheesecake Factory. I was surprised at the billboard advertising inside the mall. (I used to go to the mall at least once a week. But since I am now on a limited budget, I don’t even remember the last time I went shopping.) When in the mall with my 9yo, I try to avoid passing by Victoria’s Secret. But to my surprise, there seems to be very limited square footage that’s safe or “kid-friendly’. Am I getting too old? I'm only 46 years old but have I lost my sense of humor? Am I being uptight about nothing? (The window says: 16% of people admit to interrupting sex to check their messages....WTF?" I used to work in the city (NYC) and was barely “Americanized” when I managed a group of computer programmers. I was offended on how quite a few high ranking executives cursed out loud at almost every meeting.   After a decade of that environment, a memo probably went out because the use of curse

Where did my day go?

Every day it seems like I don’t accomplish anything – and yet, I am always tired and on my feet doing something. So last week, I opted to my old fashioned way of listing what I needed to get done: Hand-written list in the index card. And this morning, I crossed out 5 to-do’s! Yesterday, my alarm clock (as well as my husband’s ) went off at 6:00 in the morning. Of course, I hit the SNOOZE button – so did my husband! Fifteen minutes later, another alarm clock somewhere in the house was going “Wake-up, Wake-up, Wake-up!” Both my husband and I got up, brushed our teeth and started our quest to make that day productive! I headed to my 10th grader, whose alarm was going off, and woke him up. Of course, he requested for 5 more minutes – which in real time is another 15 minutes. ( I left his bedroom lights on just to make sure he’ll get up between 5 to 15 minutes from the time I patted him to get up.) I then turned off the security alarm system, walked down the stairs and into th

When you're second-guessing if you're a good mom...

Sometimes in my journey of being a mother, I can’t help wonder whether or not I’m doing the right thing… Sometimes it’s easier to grasp the complexities of child’s development when he is just learning to walk. However, I feel like it gets tougher once he starts walking on his own, makes decisions and choices without seeking my approval. I'm always wondering...second-guessing... But then out of a blue, he sends you a note saying how much he loves you… My two oldest crumbcatchers are now 21yo and 19yo. And crumbcatcher TWO lives thousands of miles away from me. I (we) miss him dearly, and this week, he sent me a note: One year ago, I was a complete and utter fiasco of a human being. It just dawned on me that it’s only been that long. It seems like forever ago, but at the same time, it feels as though that eternity was, in actuality, only a few months. So much has changed in the past year, and if you had asked me then, I would have never guessed that I’d be where I am now

We will never forget...

We will never forget… I really hope that people, especially the American people, paused, prayed and remembered what it was like nine years ago! Around one o’clock this morning, as I was lying in bed, watching a Fox News special on 9-11, tears just kept pouring every 5 minutes… 9-11 is a day I will never forget… Nine years ago today, my day already started gloomy. Although it was a clear, blue sky kind of day, that morning I had to say “good-bye” to my parents since they were flying from Newark to Los Angeles. ( They originally planned on flying to San Francisco instead of Los Angeles). A little after eight-thirty in the morning, I dropped off my three kids to school and my fourth one was just seven months old. At around 8:46 in the morning, I was listening to Z-100 when I heard them say that a plane just crashed right into one of the WTC towers. When we got home, my youngest and I turned on the television. and there it was in front of my eyes – the North Tower was o

Hold on...or let it go?

Memories stay with you. Some of them probably got tucked in – hidden at the back of your “brain” file cabinet, but once someone refreshes an event or a mannerism, you’ll remember it like it was just yesterday. Summer’s almost over – but one thing is for sure! Summer of 2010 is definitely one summer to remember! I have memories of families and friends that will keep me smiling every day – until next summer! Some memories are captured in photographs – digital or the old fashioned photo prints. Some memories are recorded in videos. Some memories are treasured in your heart. Some memories are bestowed with ever lasting fame in the world wide web. There are things – toys, furniture, book that brought plenty of memories in one’s life. A rocking chair where you sat hours in the middle of the night to calm down a crying child; Or to simply rock him to sleep as you sing “Edelweiss” Or to sit next to your little guy as he shares his “story of the day”; Or to gently s
