Dites-moi, Porquoi La vie est belle in NYC

My 8yo has an audition in NYC today. He loves the adventure of taking the train, talking endlessly, munching on Skittles and just being a kid! I love heading to NYC because it takes my mind off some serious stuff ...

My 8yo rehearsed the song for a few days. (Good thing there’s YouTube!)
(He auditioned for a part in Broadway's South Pacific)

Dites-moi Pourquoi
La vie est belle,
Dies-moi Pourquoi
La vie est gai,
Dites-moi Pourquoi,
Chere Mad'moiselle,
Est-ce que
Parce que Vous m'aimez?

Dites-moi Pourquoi, Chere Mad'moiselle,
Est-ce que Parce que Vous m'aimez?

Tell me why, oh why, my life is beautiful.
Tell me why, oh why, my life is gay.
Tell me why, oh why, my life is wonderful.
Could it be, possibly, you love me?

If you’ve been following for me a while, you know that my little guy, my fourth child, gives me so much to write about – so much fun stuff! (That's one brave pigeon! She just walked by us and didn't care about the people a few feet from her!)

Josh and I have been walking the streets of NYC for auditions since he was 6. We don’t really go often because I have 3 other kids to attend to.

He’s been in a few TV commercials i.e. Burlington Coat Factory, Nickelodeon, Verizon. His hand even did a gig for Ritz Bits! Sometimes I wonder if he does it because our NYC trip equals Skittles!

Can you imagine walking 7th or 8th Ave and seeing it in the perspective of a 47 inch, very curious boy?

He asked me why New Yorkers think New Jersey is not a great state to live in.
Not that he’s actually waiting for me to answer, because he has his own opinion anyway that he eagerly shared with me.

“Mom, I don’t understand why people think New York is better than New Jersey.
It’s so polluted in NY and there are no trees, it’s so congested, a lot of cars.
Why did they invent cars when cars just pollute the environment anyway?
People walking and talking on their cellphones, so much dirt on the ground,
a lot of buildings but no trees at all!

Although I do love the Empire State Building. I think that’s the best thing here in Manhattan.”

(Penn Plaza, 38th Floor - that's where I used to work for about 10 years as IT systems/programming manager.)While we took quick McD-break, I’ve had one of those mom-son conversations:

Of course he tried to ask for a Happy Meal but he knows I don’t buy happy meal not because I don’t want him to be happy (as he told his grandpa at one point), it’s just that I think it’s too much money.

So while munching a McDonald’s french fries, my 8yo surprised me with this:
“Mom, is there life after death. Am I going to be alone in heaven?”

“Why are you asking such question?”

"I don’t want to be alone in heaven. What if there’s a secret chamber in heaven and we can’t really be together."

I was about to answer when he shot me another question – or more like a statement.

“Mom, do you know that Burger King has the best French fries and McDonalds has the best chicken McNuggets.
Burger King French Fries are just so much crispier and tastier.
And do you know that the best sandwich is French fries and chicken nuggets squeezed together?”

(The garment district has tons of sale! Sadly, there's one peep show still on business!)
We giggled. We laughed. We were having fun.

He kept walking while we kept walking towards Time Square.

Flowers everywhere -
although my little guy is looking for the flowers which grow on the ground and not in pots.
We giggled. We laughed. We were having fun.

He kept talking while we kept walking towards Time Square.

When we got to the studio where they’re holding the audition, he just kept quiet and played with his Nintendo game.

When he finished with the audition, he came out happily and told me that he got a call-back.
It’s sounds good …but like the other auditions, you just don’t know.

We hang around Times Square to check out the street where there are people sitting on green lawn chairs in the middle of the street! It was awesome – and the pigeons are just having fun with my son, too !

Just having so much fun in the middle of Times Square!

One thing is for sure...Life is definitely beautiful....

Life is gay,

Life is wonderful,

Because I love my Josh and my Josh loves me!

  4. I love your blog. I think we follow some of the same people so it's funny how I'm just now finding you!

Both of my girls were in acting and commercials when they were younger. The oldest started when she was 3 and the funny thing is she always got Skittles or Bubble Tape after her auditions. To her, that was the greatest thing. It wasn't the auditions it was the goodies afterwards.

Being that I've never been to NY, I feel like I got a pretty eye view from your pictures. Nice.
